The thorns here are dense, but the bodies of the pierced are denser. It is impossible to look anywhere without seeing a body needled by thorns. Some dangle, like a solitary autumn leaf, pierced but once. Others are fixed, brutally, by a dozen, two dozen, bloating and pale, bereft of vitae.

Movement here is particularly impaired. It is sometimes necessary to crawl between stiffened bodies, or cut one’s way through impassible walls of flesh.
